Everything happens for a reason!  I met a lovely lady yesterday at the oriental store, we started talking about food, Italy and other things.  As we stand in front of the banana blossoms  told me she never tried them before, neither did I.  We say our goodbyes, turn around and grabbed one having not a clue what I was going to do with it, or what to expect.

As I take the first leaf apart, my heart starts pounding, the blossoms are nestled in between the leafs and the colors are just stunning.  I have to look for a salad recipe, but for now I just wanted to share the photographs.

My childhood memories flashed back looking at these amazing images. I remember these flowers. Growing up in Puerto Rico, my aunt Uva had a farm and she grew her own Plaintain and Banana trees in her back yard. I used to see the blossoms and I used to try to peel the layers to get to the inside, almost dissecting the blossom. She used to catch me and told me not to. The blossoms grew and became really big and heavy and the trees would tip over almost to the ground. That’s how I got access to some of them. I also rememeber eating the flowers out of curiosity. I was a very curious child.
After a rainfall, I used to play around the trees and catch the little Coqui frogs that used to live in little borrows in the Plaintain trees.
Beautiful captures Adriana, such great detail of what was to become Bananas.

Thanks so much Joann for stopping by and sharing your memories. Curiosity is part of me, but yesterday experience turned into something else. I was fascinated by the beauty of this fruit. I will never look at bananas in the same way.

Hi Joann, good to see you :) Sorry for the tardiness this week with the holiday, everything is upside down – inside out. I found the recipe on line, and I could tell when I tasted something was wrong, but I could not fix because was the first time with it. So I wonder if you or someone else has a tried and true recipe that I can make again. Talk to you soon

I could not believe either Amy. Maybe I should send some :) when I find the right recipe.
